Nigel Azer, M.D.

Dr. Nigel Azer, a native of Alexandria, Virginia, is an experienced board certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in adult knee and hip reconstructive surgery. He performs primary, complex and revision total joint replacement surgery, minimally invasive surgery, cartilage repair and biological alternatives to joint replacement. He is also experienced in general orthopaedics, fracture care, and sports medicine. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree from Emory University, Dr. Azer completed medical school and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia. He then completed a fellowship in total joint and biological reconstruction at Harvard University, Brigham and Woman’s Hospital. He is pleased to provide state-of-the-art care and compassionate patient-centered care, exploring all surgical and non-surgical options with his patients. He is a fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has published and lectured internationally.

Dr. Azer is actively involved in the Orthopaedic Department of INOVA Alexandria Hospital where is the chair of the Surgical Quality Assurance Committee and a strong advocate for patient safety. He participated in Alexandria hospital receiving the Joint Commission’s Center of Excellence designation.

Dr. Azer is an avid tennis player and enjoys spending time with his wife, a family practice physician, and their five children. He is on the teaching team for Sunday school at his church and loves to put his faith in action. He has a passion for mission work and has worked in Haiti, Egypt, Mexico and Rwanda.
